QUESTIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS
We ask that potential customers answer these questions thoroughly! We want to make sure our babies are going to the best homes possible and receive adequate care. Thank you!
1. Do you own any other birds? Do you have experience with birds? If not, have you done research on the species you plan to get?
2. Do you have caging and supplies ready? We require proof of caging and supplies before a baby leaves our care. Caging must be adequate for the species. If it is not, we will let you know. For recommendations on caging please ask us.
3. Are you aware of household dangers and toxins? These are things like Teflon or non-stick coated cookware and appliances, ceiling fans, avocados, open doors and windows, other pets such as cats and dogs, sinks full of water, and open toilets.
4. Are you aware that it can take time to build a relationship with a bird, even one that is hand raised? A new environment and new people can be scary to a bird. It is important to move slowly with interactions and use a force free approach.
5. Our aviary follows quarantine procedures and disease tests for PBFD, Polyoma, Pachecos and Psittacosis by blood and environmental swabs. Larger, more expensive babies are DNA sexed and individually disease tested by us prior to sale. Cockatiels are only DNA sexed. We strongly recommend that if you are bringing a new bird into a home with existing birds that you quarantine and disease test immediately if they have not been. We recommend having disease tests done on all existing birds, not just the new bird. Infectious disease can be present in older birds and some may not display any symptoms. If you bring a new baby that has a much weaker immune system into a home with asymptomatic carriers, they could easily be infected and display clinical symptoms of the disease. Death of the new bird may result. It is your choice if you decide not to, but do you understand this? We use and recommend both Animal Genetics and IQ Bird Testing.
CLOSED AVIARY
We operate a closed aviary as most legitimate and serious breeders currently do. We do not allow customers on property. It is for both biosecurity and safety. We put a lot of effort and money into maintaining a disease free aviary. Having visitors negates that. Bird theft is high at the moment as well, so we take precautions to avoid being a target. Having strangers enter an aviary of breeding pairs can also be disastrous. Birds may become terrified and break eggs, toss/abandon chicks, or even injure/kill chicks. We will not take that risk. We ask that you respect this. We do public meets.
